Hard Know News: Being a work in progress, a magical question and leaping into the unknown

Jessica Modad | FEB 25, 2023

Hey!

As I am writing this newsletter to you, it just dawned on me...

Living is not for the faint of heart.

The very act of living, waking up and breathing, means that every single day the possibility exists to be disappointed, embarrass yourself, forget something important, or have your heart broken.

"Living is not for the faint of heart," may sound grim to some, but for me it's encouraging and takes away some of the pressure I put on myself to get things right the first time.

Do you do that?... Put a lot of pressure on yourself?

Remember way back in December of 2022 and earlier this year when there was lots of talk going around about words of the year and New Years resolutions?! Well, I did everything in my power to avoid any conversations around toxic productivity especially those disguised as well meaning intentions to be "brand new" and better.

Until...

out of left field a combination of words made their way into my heart, then my head, and then my heart; again.

Those three simple words together suddenly made my personal challenges of motivating myself, persevering in the face of rejection, and being inspired a lot easier. A simple phrases is all I needed to pull myself back together.

  • Of course I didn't master a task the first time. I'm a work in progress
  • My relationship didn't last forever... it's okay, because unlocking how I want to engage in relations to others is a work in progress
  • My work wasn't good enough this time for the promotion... it's okay because, I'm a work in progress

Quote

American dancer and choreographer Agnes De Mille on being a work in progress-

"Living is a form of not being sure, not knowing what next or how. The moment you know how, you begin to die a little. The artist never entirely knows. We guess. We may be wrong, but we take leap after leap in the dark."

Question

If you're ever stuck in a fixed mindset, play with this magical question to unlock curiosity.

What if ......?

  • What if it is possible?
  • What if they're doing the best they can?
  • What if I could have the outcome I want?
  • What if this were easier, quicker and more pleasant than I currently think?
  • What if the job, relationship, grades, or personal personal goals and dreams are on the way to me, right now?

Ready to quickly change your current beliefs, expectations, and activate your imagination?!

What is your, "what if" ????

Thanks for reading The Good Stuff. I'm excited to continue pondering, practicing and playing with you this year.
Until next time!

Jessica
